The Ferrari 458 Italia was introduced to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. This exotic sports car, which is the successor of the Ferrari F430, features a 4.5 liter V8 engine and a dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission.

The 458 is unique in that it is the first Ferrari to be sold without a fully manual transmission option.

The 2011 458 Italia’s starting MSRP is $227,325, according to Edmunds Inside Line, and Automotive News estimates that the 2012 458 Italia Spider will cost about $257,000.

In late 2010, Ferrari recalled all 458s due to a problem with a flammable adhesive used in the vehicle’s wheel arch assemblies. In some cases, the adhesive caught fire at high speeds. Ferrari replaced the adhesive in all of the recalled vehicles.

Despite these design problems, the Ferrari 458 Italia has garnered an impressive list of auto awards.

For instance, it was selected as the “2011 Best Driver’s Car” by Motor Trend from among competitors like the Porsche Cayman, the Lotus Evora, and the Nissan GT-R.

Keep reading for more info about the Ferrari 458 Italia, including auto insurance info or type your zip code now to compare quotes online!

How much is auto insurance for a Ferrari 458?

Since it’s a limited production vehicle, average auto insurance rate estimates are quite limited online for the Ferrari 458. However, car insurance rates for a variety of Ferrari models averages $3,456 annually. Actual premium costs will vary based on model type, usage and where you live.

Beyond that information, rate data is available for comparable vehicles like the Mercedes SLS AMG, the Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe, and the Audi R8.

These vehicles aren’t quite as pricey as the 458 Italia, but their average auto insurance rates will give you a general idea of how much it would cost to insure a 458.

For Audi R8 auto insurance, the typical driver pays about $3,485 annually. That’s almost $300 per month, which is more than many people fork over for their monthly car payments.

The R8 starts at just $114,200, though, which is about 50% of what you’ll pay for a typical Ferrari. The average annual rate for Porsche 911 auto insurance is $3,713. That’s a monthly rate of almost $310, but this is to be expected, considering this exotic sports car’s base price is $160,700.

The price tag for the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG is closest to the Ferrari 458’s, at $183,000, but it still costs significantly less. Typical SLS drivers report paying around $364 a month for car insurance, or $4,374 per year.

Ferrari 458 Italia Awards

In addition to being designated the “2011 Best Driver’s Car” in the U.S., the 458 Italia has collected a plethora of other awards. Also in the U.S., it earned the “World Performance Car of the Year” title, as well as the Robb Report’s “Car of the Year,” designation.

The 458 also received various “Car of the Year” awards from publications in Japan, China, the Middle East, and Germany. In the U.K., the Ferrari 458 won top honors from the Daily Telegraph and BBC’s Top Gear Magazine.

Ferrari 458 Italia Performance Specs

The Ferrari 458 Italia’s maximum speed is 325 kilometers per hour, which is equal to about 202 miles per hour. By way of comparison, the Mercedes SLS AMG maxes out at just 197 mph, while the Lamborghini Gallardo can match the Italia’s top speed.

It takes just 3.4 seconds for the 458 to reach 100 kilometers per hour from a dead stop, which is equal to about 62 miles per hour. It takes the SLS 3.7 seconds to reach 60 mph, and the Gallardo’ specs are once again identical to the Italia’s.

However, the Italia can hit 124 kilometers per hour in 10.4 seconds, according to Popular Mechanics. This is a full 1.4 seconds faster than the reported 0-124 km/h time for the Gallardo.

Ferrari 458 Italia Safety

Going over 100 miles per hour is not something most people would consider “safe,” but even supercars like the 458 incorporate safety systems to help protect drivers. This Italian supercar features electronic stability control and traction control, which you’ll find in most other exotic sports cars, as well as most consumer sedans and SUVs.

These systems work together to correct the driver’s steering and help realign the vehicle when it goes into a dangerous skid.

The systems on supercars like the 458 are unique, though, in that they offer different settings and can be switched off. The 458 Italia features settings for wet weather, racing, and sport driving on curvy roads. The Italia also boasts the following safety features:

  • Tire pressure monitoring
  • Dual front side-mounted air bags
  • Front head air bags

Ferrari 458 Italia Interior

Though no one would describe this 2-seater’s interior as “spacious,” it still offers luxury-level fit and finish, as well as a satisfying menu of creature comforts. Both the driver’s and passenger’s seats are 8-way power-adjustable with manually adjustable lumbar supports.

There’s a dual-zone climate control feature, as well as air filtration and a leather steering wheel. The Italia is equipped with a 6-speaker CD/MP3 player, as well as an auxiliary audio input jack. There’s also Bluetooth integration.

While the Ferrari 458’s cabin is comfortable, it’s not for drivers who are looking for the ultimate in interior luxury. Its standard gadgets don’t hold a candle to what you’ll find in super-luxury cruisers like the Porsche Panamera, the Mercedes Benz S Class, or the Jaguar XJ.

However, these cars can’t compare to the 458 when it comes to performance.

Ferrari 458 Italia Warranty

The Ferrari 458 Italia is warranted for two years and unlimited miles. This is one year less than Lamborghini’s three-year/unlimited mileage warranty. The SLS from Mercedes features a more generous 4-year warranty, but it’s limited to 50,000 miles.
