About Country Financial

Country Financial began in 1925 when farmers, who were members of the Illinois Agricultural Association, decided to group together to provide low-cost fire and lightning insurance to farmers.

Farmers became the first salespeople for the company, as they realized that many “city” agents did not travel the dirt roads to meet farm families.

These farmers worked part-time selling insurance to their neighbors. The first year, 385 farmers took to the roads to bring this insurance to their friends.

Country Financial began selling auto insurance in 1927, then expanded to life and homeowner’s insurance. Later, the company grew and branched into financial services, as well.

Today, Country Financial offers policies in 40 states with agents in 14 states. The company has 5,600 employees, writes over one million auto insurance policies, over $3.2 billion dollars in assets and offers life, home and auto insurance, along with financial services and loans.

Country Financial also acquired Middle Oaks and Cotton States, both insurance agencies that, like Country, began as localized firms selling insurance to a specified group.

The company has corporate offices in Bloomington, Illinois; Arden Hills, Minnesota; Atlanta, Georgia; Middleton, Connecticut; and Salem, Oregon.

Country Financial Industry Ratings

Country is ranked “A+” by A.M. Best, a group which rates companies’ financial security. It is also listed as a Fortune company, with a ranking of 599. Weiss Ratings gave Country’s life insurance division an “A+”, the highest rank it gives.

Overall, Country appears to be a financially sound company. It is structured as both a mutual company and a stock company, meaning that some divisions are owned by the policyholders and some by shareholders.

Country provides this service as a benefit to other companies and to the public.

You can also purchase supplemental policies for glass repair, property damage, medical expenses and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage along with motorcycle insurance, rental car insurance and personal umbrella policies.

What is supplemental auto insurance?

Country Financial agents will assess your needs and help you determine the best coverage for your vehicle and driving conditions. Country prides itself on never selling “off-the-shelf” policies; instead, an agent tailors your policy to meet your needs.
