About GMAC Auto Insurance

GMAC (General Motors Acceptance Corporation) is a company well-known because of its parent, General Motors Corporation. GMAC originated as the financial services branch of General Motors, and today it functions as a separate private entity that handles vehicle financing, and through its subsidiaries, offers auto insurance.

GMAC Financial Services was founded in 1919 with its headquarters located in Michigan, and the company has since grown to offer many other services through different divisions besides auto insurance, with combined revenue of over $21 billion annually.

GMAC insurance covers consumers, auto dealerships and other types of businesses.

Over the years, GMAC insurance has explored and tested new products, and it became the first company to sell vehicle service contracts, which protect customers against unexpected or sudden car repairs or breakdowns.

GMAC insurance provides quality coverage and service to a diversified customer base all over the world.

Products

GMAC insurance offers coverage for standard vehicles, as well as classic and collector car insurance. In addition, they offer various car insurance discounts to give policyholders many opportunities to save, as well as a range of added services to meet their customers’ policy needs.

The company offers what they call Smart Services, which is a bundle of services including a lifetime guarantee on all repairs made at any of their Gold Medal repair shops, and inspections made by GMAC to ensure every repaired car is in top condition.

They also offer a deductible waiver up to $250 if a customer is not satisfied with their claims service, and GMAC insurance will cover up to $500 in food, travel expenses, and lodging, so customers will never be stranded while dealing with a claim.

The company offers many other services in their Smart Services package, to save time for customers and help them deal more easily with a large number of inconveniences that typically follow an accident.

This includes optional towing anywhere nationwide (to the nearest qualified repair facility) and a smart valet service which will pick up the customer’s damaged vehicle, bring a rental car to them, and then deliver the repaired vehicle back to them and also return the rental car.

If a car is considered a total loss after an accident, GMAC will provide someone to do all the legwork to find a new replacement vehicle for the customer. They offer optional coverage such as payments for up to a full-size rental car during a claim and added coverage for specialized equipment and accessories on vehicles.

Customers who have ties to GM or GMAC can benefit from multiple discount opportunities. GMAC provides discounts for any employee of a business that works with General Motors, and they call this their GM supplier discount.

According to the GMAC website, it is surprising how many companies qualify for this. GMAC also offers discounts for:

  • Current and retired employees of GMAC, GM, and other subsidiaries, as well as their extended families.
  • If every vehicle on a policy is a GM car
  • If Customers use a GM card, have a GMAC mortgage or auto loan
