The CURE auto insurance company is a new concept in auto insurance policies, and advertises itself as having the ability to keep auto insurance costs down for good drivers.

CURE Auto Insurance is unique among insurance companies as a “not-for-profit” organization designed to meet certain auto insurance requirements.

About the CURE Auto Insurance Company

The company began with the auto insurance crises in New Jersey in the 1980’s. Regulation and high payouts for claims and lawsuits were driving New Jersey auto insurance companies into financial jeopardy, and many auto insurers considered simply pulling out of the state altogether.

However, insurance commissioner James Sheeran and Dr. Lena Chang, an expert on the insurance industry, began to envision a different type of company.

The New Jersey Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange, or NJ CURE, was born.

NJ CURE operated on some very simple principles. Policies were not sold by agents or brokers, but instead came directly from the company’s Princeton office. By eliminating the high overhead costs of agencies, CURE was able to keep prices low.

Further, by operating on a non-profit basis with the policyholders as members, CURE’s customers had a vested interest in avoiding high payouts and lawsuits, as this kept their own premiums low.

Finally, CURE would not accept outside investors, which meant the company could stay focused on its own particular goals, rather than being obligated to satisfy an individual or agency which had injected cash into the company.

CURE spread outside the New Jersey area to become an overnight sensation in auto insurance circles. Because of the company’s unique structure, it soon drew attention from both other companies and potential customers.

Today, CURE is available in several markets, although the company is very limited in access to the majority of Americans.

How is CURE different than other auto insurance companies?

CURE differs from auto other insurance companies in the way it figures premiums. CURE does not use credit scores, education level, occupation, or home ownership as factors in figuring premiums.

CURE considers these factors discriminatory and does not believe they have anything to do with your safe operation of a vehicle. In fact, the single most important factor in obtaining a CURE quote is your driving record.

CURE also operates on a very different scheme regarding driver history. Rather than absorbing costs for claims and passing them on to other customers, CURE scrutinizes every member driver’s record. Just one moving violation can result in cancellation of your policy.

On the other hand, CURE also offers one-year policy premium payments in advance. By paying a full year, your premiums will not increase, as opposed to other companies which tend to set six-month limits and reassess your premiums twice a year.

CURE Auto Insurance Reviews and Ratings

Because CURE is such a small company, it has not been reviewed by the major industry raters such as J.D. Power and Associates. However, overall customer satisfaction seems to be high judging from the relatively few complaints about the company’s service.

CURE does not offer many discounts because its prices are already so astronomically low due to the low overhead and claims payout. However, you can explore options to lower your discount by raising your deductible, taking less coverage, or both.

CURE is an auto insurance company designed to meet the needs of “good” drivers. It does not offer policies to high-risk drivers, such as those convicted of DUI or reckless driving.

Because the company keeps such strict standards in regard to its members, overall membership tends to be of safe drivers, who file few claims for damages. This keeps costs low, and, according to CURE, do not punish the good drivers for the faults of the bad motorists.

CURE holds a unique place in automobile insurance history, arising out of a specific need in a specific location and meeting the need with a “common sense” alternative.

Although other companies have grown from serving under-represented niches of society, such as farmers or firemen, CURE is the first insurance agency to directly target good drivers and exclude dangerous ones, by making the good drivers members of their own insurance consortium.

Because of this, many drivers with good records feel that they are getting a good price as a reward for their careful habits.

How much is auto insurance from the CURE auto insurance company?

CURE quotes are available on the company’s website. As no agents are employed by the company, you will speak directly to a representative on-site when you buy your policy and if you have to file a claim.

Be prepared to do all of your business with the CURE online or on the telephone, as the CURE has no physical locations which you can visit to discuss your policy or claim.

However, just like any big purchase you should always shop around compare auto insurance quotes before selecting a provider.
