The Audi TT coupe and roadster have a lot going for them. Both are comfortable, beautifully styled and sure-footed luxury sport cars that offer a fun, distinctive driving experience.

For anyone wondering what it costs to insure an Audi TT, our site lets you get comparative quotes for your zip code by entering it in the box.

We also offer you the chance to take a closer look at the Audi TT and learn more about what makes it special, as well as its safety and performance features and where it fits in with the competition.

The Audi TT’s Distinct Market Position

Currently in it second generation, the Audi TT coupe was first introduced as a production model in 1998 and was followed in 1999 by the first TT soft-top roadster. It shares a Volkswagen production platform with other cars in the VW group including an upscale VW Golf version sold in Europe.

The Audi TT stands apart from some of its immediate competition because it comes standard with Audi Quattro all-wheel drive in contrast to rear-wheel drive competitors like the BMW Z4.

When car reviewers want to focus on what sets the Audi TT apart, however, they most often refer to its sporty but civilized good looks, lavish interior luxury and unmistakeable Audi design. This car makes little attempt to position itself as a hardcore sports racer like the Porsche Cayman or the Chevrolet Corvette.

Consumer Guide sums up its niche as “luxury tourer” whose “more civilized demeanor might be just the thing for more casual motoring.” It has received awards and accolades for its bold lines and style.

Kelly Blue Book, Motor Trend, and many other heavyweight reviewers applaud its seminal looks, “sleek and bulbous and minimalist at once,” as a Kelly Blue Book reviewer describes the 2000 model’s appearance.

As a well-rounded compact luxury touring vehicle, the Audi TT doesn’t place high on the definitive US News rankings for 2011 Luxury Sports Cars.

It has neither the rocket speed of the Chevrolet Corvette and Lotus Exige nor the impeccable cornering and traction of the Porsche mid-engine Boxster and Cayman.

What it does have, though, is a high commitment to style, an overall sporty personality, and a certain user-friendly composure and luxury at a price that is noticeably lower than its competitors.

The 2011 Audi TT starts at $38,300 for its base model in contrast to other luxury sports cars by BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Porsche that start out approximately $8,000 to $14,000 higher.

Audi TT Specs and Options

The 2011 Audi TT hatchback coupe and two-seat roadster both come equipped with just one engine choice, a 211-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged in-line four-cylinder with direct fuel injection.

Its standard six-speed S tronic transmission is a double-clutch automated manual transmission that can function as an automatic or manually with the steering-mounted paddle shifters as well as the center console shift lever.

As mentioned, Audi Quattro all-wheel drive comes standard on the TT. As the only four-cylinder in its class, the Audi TT’s fuel economy is excellent at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for a combined reading of 26 mpg.

The main trim level is called Premium Plus and includes plenty of convenient and luxurious standard features. The Prestige package adds other touches including navigation, heated seats, and an upgraded Bose stereo system.

Also available is adaptive suspension dampers, a sport styling package, and special leather upholstery with baseball-glove stitch detailing.

What about Safety and Insurance?

The federal government and insurance industry have provided no crash test evaluations of the Audi TT for recent model years. Typically, these agencies put their focus on more conventional mass-market vehicles such as minivans, sedans, and SUVs.

In order to get an idea of the Audi TT’s safety profile, it’s therefore necessary to look closely at safety equipment and design.

The Audi TT comes with an array of safety features seen more and more on sport coupes and roadsters, which is a welcome trend.

The TT boasts head and thorax side air bags, full-size front air bags, driver and front passenger knee air bags, energy-absorbing body design, side intrustion protection, safety belts with tensioners and force limiters, LATCH child seat system for the small rear seats in the coupe, Electronic Stabilization Control, Anti-Slip Regulation, anti-lock brakes, parking assist, tire pressure monitoring and, of course, the road-gripping all-wheel drive Quattro system itself.

Even with this focus on safety, the Audi TT is somewhat expensive to insure as it falls in the high-risk sports car category for insurance purposes. Typical national average premiums are between $1850 and $2000 for a normal driver and moderate deductibles.

Depending on the state, though, these averages can fall to below $1,200 or exceed $2500 annually for exactly the same typical policy.

To add to these fluctuations, insurance companies look at your credit history, your age and driving experience, your zip code, as well as a number of other relevant considerations before they come up with an insurance price tailored to you.

One thing in your favor is the brisk competition between insurance companies for your business. If you want to find the best quote possible for insuring an Audi TT, start looking today by entering your zip code where indicated and beat the high cost of car insurance.
