The Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe is among the priciest trim levels available for Porsche’s 911 Carrera luxury sports car. The 2011 Carrera, which is available in over 24 different trims, is ranked at the top of luxury sports cars by many reviewers, alongside vehicles such as the Jaguar XK and the Mercedes Benz CL Class.

Starting at $79,000, the base model Carrera is among the more affordable luxury sports cars on the market, especially considering its high ranking.

However, you’ll pay more than twice that amount for a 911 Turbo S Coupe, which starts at $160,700. If you’d prefer a convertible, the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet starts at $172,100.

2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

If you’re holding out for the 2012 Carrera, you’ll pay approximately $82,100 for the base model, Motor Authority reports. For the new model year, the 911 Carrera has undergone some structural adjustments. It now features an expanded wheelbase and a lower stance, and it’s about 100 pounds lighter due to a revamped body composition.

The Carrera’s rear spoiler is wider, and it adjusts position automatically to achieve optimal aerodynamics.

911 Turbo S Coupe Car Insurance

Since the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe isn’t on the market yet, no average car insurance rate data is available for it. However, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) reports an average annual car insurance expenditure of $3,713 for this vehicle.

Considering the Turbo S Coupe’s base price, this rate is typical. For instance, the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, which costs about $15,000 more than the 911 Turbo S, has an average annual car insurance rate of $4,374.

The Nissan GT-R and the Dodge Viper both cost less than the Turbo S upfront, but their average car insurance rates are higher. The NADA predicts that it will cost $4,200 to insure a GT-R and about $5,330 to cover a Viper.

Auto insurance rates are lower for most other competing luxury sports cars, since they cost less than the Turbo S to start with. For instance, the 2012 Audi R8 starts at $114,200, and the average driver pays about $3,485 a year to insure it.

For the base model Jaguar XK, car insurance usually costs about $2,365 annually. Mercedes Benz CL Class car insurance coverage averages about $2,889 each year.

The NADA projects that you’ll pay about $1,937 worth of car insurance premiums each year if you purchase a Porsche Boxster, which is priced under $50,000 for the base model.

You’ll pay approximately $2,329 in annual premiums to insure a Porsche Cayman.

911 Turbo S Repairs and Warranty

All Porsche 911 Carrera models, including the 911 Turbo S Coupe, are covered under Porsche’s 4-year/50,000 mile warranty. This plan, which is typical for the industry, includes complementary roadside assistance.

For most drivers, the warranty expires a few months before the vehicle is four years old.

The NADA estimates that a typical driver will pay about $1,604 in repair costs that year and $2,406 the following year. That’s a total 5-year repair bill of slightly more than $4,010.

If you opt instead for a Porsche Boxter or a Porsche Cayman, you’ll save about $700 on repair costs over five years, the NADA projects. Estimated repair costs for the Jaguar XK are even lower, at about $2,597 over a 5-year period.

For a Mercedes Benz CL Class, you’ll pay about $2,800 in repair costs over five years.

Although the Turbo S Coupe’s repair costs are somewhat higher than its competitors’, it’s important to note that this vehicle has earned the highest available reliability rating of 10.0 from J.D. Power and Associates.

By way of comparison, the Jaguar XK received a score of 7.0 out of 10, and the Nissan GT-R only received a score of 6.0.

The NADA estimates that over five years, you’ll pay about $4,033 in maintenance costs for the Porsche 911 Turbo S. During the first and fifth years that you own your luxury sports car, you’ll pay about $175, and scheduled service will cost you approximately $513 during the second year.

You’ll pay roughly $2,468 for your third-year tune-up, and just over $700 for scheduled service the fourth year that you own your 911.

For a Jaguar XK, 5-year maintenance costs will total approximately $3,188, and the anticipated routine service expenses for the Mercedes CL Class will be about $3,910.
