Getting quality car insurance is essential if you decide to invest in a Lexus LS 460. With a starting 2011 MSRP of $67,130, any damage to your vehicle could result in serious damage to your wallet.

Comprehensive car insurance is a must for Lexus LS 460 owners and the only way to find the most affordable auto insurance rates for a Lexus LS 460 is to shop around as rates vary from one provider to another.

You can get a personalized car insurance quote by submitting your zip code in the box on this page or read on for review of the Lexus LS 460.

Lexus LS 460 Performance

All Lexus LS 460s come with the same-sized engine, a 4.6 liter V8. However, the rear-wheel drive models are both more powerful and more fuel efficient than the all-wheel drive models.

The Lexus LS 460 RWD and the Lexus LS 460 L RWD both deliver 380 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and get 24 miles per gallon on the highway.

In contrast, the Lexus LS 460 AWD and the Lexus LS 460 L AWD deliver only 357 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and get just 23 miles per gallon in highway driving. All four models get 16 mpg in city driving.

Although these fuel economy numbers don’t place the Lexus LS at the very bottom of the luxury class, there are better options available if you’re concerned with saving at the pump.

For instance, the Audi A8 gets 17 city mpg and 27 highway mpg, and there are also several hybrids available in this class.

U.S. News and World Report ranks the Lexus LS 3rd out of 10 vehicles in its “Super Luxury” class, but the LS didn’t earn this rank due to its powerful performance.

Reviewers like Consumer Guide appreciated this luxury car’s smooth, “pillowy” ride, but they say that the LS can’t stand up to European competitors when it comes to acceleration and handling.

Drivers can upgrade the LS 460 with a sport package that improves the vehicle’s performance, but this upgrade erodes the price advantage that the Lexus LS has over its competitors.

Lexus LS 460 Interior Features

While the Lexus LS doesn’t blow the competition away when it comes to performance, its luxurious interior earns it raves from reviewers, especially in light of its competitive price.

Motor Trend described the cabin as “whisper-quiet,” and Consumer Guide’s reviewer felt that it was among the quietest cars available.

Edmunds’ reviewer also appreciated the cabin isolation and the exquisite craftsmanship of the materials, but described the interior design as somewhat “staid.”

Since the Lexus LS 460 is often used as a chauffeured car, it offers some of the most extensive back-seat amenities available outside of the Rolls-Royce.

The optional Executive Class Seating package includes reclining seats, footrests, and lumbar massagers. It also features an innovative temperature control system that uses infrared sensors to assess the passenger’s body temperature and adjust the climate accordingly.

Passengers can enjoy their favorite movies on the 9-inch rear-seat LCD screen, and the LS 460 also features an optional sound system by Mark Levinson that U.S. News describes as one of the best available in this class.

Even without these opulent upgrades, the standard features in the Lexus LS help it to stand out from the competition. All LS 460s feature the following amenities:

  • XM radio
  • Power moonroof
  • HDD navigation system
  • USB and Bluetooth connectivity

Lexus LS 460 Safety Ratings and Features

Safety testing of super luxury automobiles is limited, and the Lexus LS 460 is no exception. The 2011 LS 460 has not been tested at all by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted limited tests.

The Lexus LS received the IIHS’ top score in frontal- and rear-impact crash testing, but no results were reported for side-impacts or rollovers.

The Lexus LS 460 comes with standard safety features including electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, front-seat active head restraints, and side curtain air bags.

The optional Safety Connect system alerts emergency responders in the event of a collision, even if the vehicle’s occupants are incapacitated. Other optional safety features include lane departure monitoring, a parking guidance system, and adaptive cruise control.

Reliability Ratings and Warranty for the Lexus LS 460

J.D. Power and Associates gave the Lexus LS 460 a Predicted Reliability rating of 9.0 out of 10, which is the highest given to any rated super luxury vehicle.

By way of comparison, the Porsche Panamera and the BMW 7-Series received scores of 8.0 out of 10, and the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Jaguar XJ scored 7.0 out of 10.

In the event that something does go wrong, the LS 460’s powertrain is warranted for seven years or 70,000 miles, and the bumper-to-bumper warranty extends for four years or 50,000 miles. The vehicle also comes with roadside assistance for four years or 50,000 miles.

Car Insurance Costs for the Lexus LS 460

Kelley Blue Book estimates that the total cost of ownership for the Lexus LS 460 over five years is approximately $92,500. This figure includes around $50,000 in depreciation, as well as $9,000 in financing costs.

For drivers who log around 15,000 miles per year, fuel costs are estimated to be about $13,500. The typical driver reported paying about $7,195 in car insurance premiums over five years, which breaks down to approximately $1,440 per year.
