The Dodge Magnum is a high-powered machine hidden under the guise of a sporty station wagon.

The car was offered in 2008, with a new upgrade coming out for the 2011-2012 model year. This vehicle offers many great features, and consumers rate this is a very fun car to drive.

With the V-6 and available V-8 engines, along with sport-performance suspension and brakes, it is easy to see why.

Dodge Magnum Models and Options

The Dodge Magnum was first introduced to the market in 1978. The car originally started as a blend of popular features from two other car models, namely the Chrysler and Cordoba.

The latest iteration of the Dodge Magnum for 2011-2012 establishes the vehicle’s true identity. The car is evolving into a full-fledged minivan more than a wagon, and is becoming a fast favorite.

The Dodge Magnum has good-looking and aggressive styling, a wide selection of trim choices, enough utility for the whole family and powerful engine options.

The Dodge Magnum wagon has four trim-level choices and each adds more features, including 17-inch wheels and more powerful V-6 engines, 18-inch wheels for all-wheel drive, power seats and satellite radio.

The sport version adds in a V-8 engine, firmer sporty suspension, leather seats, and upgraded audio.

It gets better with their top-of-the-line SRT8 trim package, which has an even more powerful V-8, 20-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, sport suspension and steering, upholstery with leather and suede and unique details in the interior and exterior.

Additional options are available in packages and include a sunroof, navigation system, Bluetooth, xenon headlights, and entertainment system for rear seat passengers.

For the top-of-the-line SRT8 model a 13-speaker audio system is an available option.

The Dodge Magnum has more cabin space than one might imagine inside. With the rear seats up and in passenger position, there is almost 28 cubic feet of room for cargo.

Put the seats down and you have 72 cubic feet for groceries, which rivals top-rated compact SUVs. The liftgate opens up instead of out to make things easier, and an optional organizer for cargo is available.

Dodge Magnum Performance

The Dodge Magnum has a powerful V-6 engine that can out-do the BMW 525i sport wagon’s six-cylinder. The car also has an available 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that provides enough power to please many fast-car enthusiasts.

The SRT8 model offers sporty seats with grippy suede inserts and a new reconfigurable display in the dash, for drivers to track their performance numbers.

The Dodge Magnum was a bit sluggish in drive tests performed by Edmunds.com, with the base model engine which is a 2.7-liter V6.

With an upgrade to the 3.5-liter V-6 or the V-8 engine, however, the handling and power improve markedly. The downside is the poor gas mileage, and the happy medium is the R/T package, which offers a better compromise between economy and power.

Vehicle Safety Features

The Dodge Magnum did well in government safety testing. A rating of five stars was given for passenger and driver safety, with four stars been given for both front-side impact and rollover crash tests, with a rear-side impact rating of five stars.

The Magnum also has a number of safety features which car insurance companies love, although not as many as some of the higher priced cars on the market. Standard brakes on all Magnum models are four-wheel disc brakes.

Traction control, antilock brakes, and stability control are optional on all models. Some of the safety features are as follows:

  • All speed traction control
  • ABS with brake assist
  • Side curtain air bags
  • Self sealing tires
  • Post-collision safety system
  • Child seat anchors
  • Cost to insure

Many factors come into play when estimating the car insurance cost for a vehicle, besides the car itself. The state and city you live in are important factors, especially if you reside in an area with a high car theft rate or heavy traffic.

Age group is important as well, since drivers below 25 and above 75 years of age tend to have the most accidents. A driving record with one or more points on it will have an impact on insurance rates as well.

As far as the type of car is concerned, safety is an important determinant of insurance rates, and cars like the Dodge Magnum, that come with high-performance packages and larger, more powerful engines give drivers the capability to do a lot of things that may drive their insurance rates higher, and insurance companies factor this in to their rates.

According to projected insurance rates from Edmunds.com, in 2011 the insurance cost for a 2008 Dodge Magnum wagon is $2,346, which is quite a bit higher than the national average of $1,440.

Car insurance comparison is the only way to find the best rates for the Dodge Magnum or any other vehicle and most drivers opt to search online.

There are over 100 licensed car insurance companies in most states and good drivers have plenty of options when it comes to auto insurance so enter your zip code below and compare car insurance quotes today!
