Car Insurance Rates Comparison
Progressive bases their advertising on being able to beat the rates of their competitors. With their “Name Your Price” utility, the company enables consumers to choose how much they would like to pay for their policies.
Additionally, Progressive actually offers a tool on their own website to compare prices with other car insurance companies and provides information on how to compare the details of one policy to another.
Allstate encourages customers to switch to them to take advantage of their Accident Forgiveness program, which keeps insurance rates from increasing if a customer has an accident, even if it’s their fault.
This is part of the company’s Your Choice auto insurance package, which includes other benefits and auto insurance discounts such as 5 percent rebates earned for every six months of driving without an accident, and a $100 discount off collision deductibles, just for signing up, among other benefits.
Allstate has made efforts to tailor policies and discounts to many types of customers, through their offering of different packages for a Standard or Premium policy, as well as a Value package policy.
Customer Service Review
Progressive markets its products directly to consumers via the internet and through approximately 30,000 independent insurance agents.
Progressive has beefed up their customer website experience, making it one of the best and most efficient quote-getting experiences out there, winning it the #1 auto insurance website spot from Keynote Systems.
It automatically fills vehicle data in with one click to select the car a user wants to insure and the site says a quote can be had in 6 minutes.
If a user quits the quote process halfway through, Progressive e-mails them to invite the customer back to the website as well as providing a customer service phone number to call if they would prefer to finish the quote over the phone.
And, when Progressive sends a quote via e-mail they provide a tool where a customer can actually add or delete coverage limits and payment terms to create their own custom policy package, right in the actual email.
Allstate promotes the personal touch that comes from working directly with an Allstate agent who can help customers become educated about car insurance policy options, needs, requirements and special savings opportunities they might not find if they tried to piece together coverage on their own through an internet site with no personal guidance.
They emphasize the availability of their agents as helping hands in a time of trouble, such as when dealing with all the inconveniences that come with being involved in an auto accident.
Additionally, they offer commercial and professional liability insurance policies. Their coverage includes:
- Autos, motorcycles and boats
- Commercial Auto
- Pet Insurance
Allstate insurance is engaged primarily in personal property and casualty insurance, as well as life insurance retirement and products for investment.
They offer many of the same or similar types of insurance products as Progressive, however, they have also enhanced their product set with the following:
- Online banking services and offerings including CDs, IRAs, mortgages and high-yield savings
- Mutual funds, annuities, life insurance and more through Allstate financial
- Allstate Motor Club roadside assistance
Which Auto Insurance Company is better?
Both companies offer competitive products and services, so the choice is not a simple one.
According to a survey done by the California Department of Insurance, Progressive would charge approximately $1,774 for a policy on a 40-60 year old male, driving a Honda Accord 10,000 miles or less each year with a clean driving record.
Allstate, on the other hand, would charge this same theoretical customer $1,408.
There are many discount options and unique policy benefits offered by Allstate however Progressive has a history of expertise in writing policies for good drivers and high-risk drivers offering many ways to customize coverage levels to get the most tailored, cost-effective package for an individual’s personal needs.
Ultimately both of these auto insurance companies are solid choices so read up on what type of insurance you need and compare at least a handful of providers before making a decision.
