Farmers Customer Service Ratings

In the 2011 J. D. Power and Associates customer service survey, which questions customers about their experiences with their automobile insurance providers, Farmers gained three out of five stars, or an “average” rating, in the category of “contacting the insurer.”

However, the company received only two out of five stars (or below average) in the categories of overall customer satisfaction, pricing, policy offerings and billing and payment.

Due to its low scores in these categories, Farmers only received 760 (out of 1,000) in the Customer Satisfaction Index, a comparison of 33 companies. Farmers ranked 28th in the Index, the lowest ranking for a company of its size.

State Farm Customer Service Rankings

By comparison, State Farm had very good customer ratings in the J. D. Power survey. State Farm scored 804 points on the 1,000-point Customer Service Index, the highest score for a large company on the survey.

State Farm scored four out of five stars, or “above average,” in overall customer satisfaction and contacting the insurers. State Farm scored three out of five stars (or average) in billing and payment, pricing, and policy offerings.

One of the things customers may like about State Farm is its system of local agents, who offer personal service right in your own hometown.

Which Auto Insurance Company is a better choice for you?

There is obviously little comparison in customer satisfaction between State Farm and Farmers Insurance according to the 2011 JD Powers national auto insurance study.

Possibly this is due to Farmer’s more diversified parent structure, and the fact that Farmers does not have the customer service infrastructure which State Farm, a self-contained company, has.

However, national surveys are not always correct especially when it comes to reviewing local markets.

Both Farmers and State Farm are highly respected brands in the auto insurance industry and if you can get affordable auto insurance rates from either company there is still a good sense of security being backed by such a well-known insurer.

No matter which company you ultimately decide upon, talking with agents from the companies can be very enlightening and you should always choose a company with agents which make you feel comfortable, who are available to you to answer questions and give you a sound picture of the company’s options and pricing.
