Allstate vs. Amica Customer Service Review

Allstate is a nationwide auto insurance provider whereas Amica only covers 39 states so for some drivers choice will be limited simply based on where you live.

For drivers who have access to both providers however one of the most respected measures of customer satisfaction between car insurance companies is the annual “National Auto Insurance Study” performed by J.D. Powers & Associates.

This study compare car insurance companies across a number of factors including overall satisfaction, contacting the insurer, policy offering, billing and payment and pricing.

While every driver will have their own experience dealing with any particular car insurance company this National Auto Insurance study can help identity some areas of strength and weakness among providers.

Scores are based on a scale of 5 with 5 meaning the highest. In the 2010 study Amica and Allstate showed significant differences.

Amica scored a perfect score – a Perfect 5 in all categories and for the 11th consecutive year won the award for “Highest Customer Satisfaction Amount National Auto Insurers” while Allstate performed far less than what you may expect from the 2nd largest car insurance company in the US. Allstate’s scores were:

  • Customer Overall Satisfaction  3 /5
  • Pricing  2/ 5
  • Policy Offerings  3/ 5
  • Contacting the Insurance Company 3 / 5
  • Payment and billing  3/ 5

As you can see Allstate never scored more than 60% on any of these tests while Amica scored 100% across the board.

Should you choose Allstate or Amica?

Buying car insurance is never as easy as just comparing two companies on the surface. Both Amica and Allstate are highly respected and financially strong companies and while studies show that Amica has a much higher level of customer service this may/may not be true for you.

Your job is to find the best coverage for your needs at the most affordable prices and if both of these providers offer the same level of coverage at comparable prices then it comes down to a personal choice.

Amica certainly seems like a smaller car insurance company who can provide a lot more personal attention but there is also value in having access to much larger network of agents.

No matter who you choose in this car insurance comparison you will be insured by a quality provider so take your time, research rates and ultimately choose the provider you are most comfortable with.
