Driving under the influence is a serious offense and celebrities are not immune to traffic laws. Some of the most famous celebrities charged with a DUI have played invincible stars online but in real life they have had some pretty low points. While Jack Bauer, a heavy metal god and a mean girl might not have much in common they certainly all needed a good DUI lawyer at some point. How many celebrities have been charged with a DUI?
You think celebrity and fame would come with common sense however the number of celebrities charged with a DUI or DWI is longer than some high school reunions. Some celebrities even go for a double and rack up a 2nd DUI (as if one wasn’t enough). Driving under the influence is not just illegal but pretty darn stupid. Many celebrities have even faced jail time for their DUI conviction. However there is always the one upside – your mugshot will be circulated online long after people stop watching their shows. Some of the most famous celebrity DUI’s have been:
Lindsay Lohan – In May of 2007 Lindsay told fashion magazine ELLE that she had quit partying only to be arrested for a DUI after a car crash and hit and run. In July 2007 Lindsay Lohan had a second DUI which sent her to jail and then rehab.
Keifer Sutherland – Jack Bauer has it rough but the President wasn’t there to cover Kiefer Sutherland in 2007 when Kiefer received his second DUI (while being on parole) and spent 48 days in a jail.
Gary Collins – An Emmy award winning actor, Gary Collin’s first DUI in 2006 resulted in a death to the other driver (although the other driver was determined to be at fault for running a red light). However, even with this morbid experience Gary was arrested again in June 2009 for another DUI.
Michelle Rodriguez – There is no doubt this actor has certainly lost a few marbles about driving responsibly. In November 2003 Michelle Rodriguez was arrested for a DUI on Hollywood Blvd and then again, just 2 years later, in 2005 while filming “Lost” in Hawaii.
Chris Klein – At least Chris Klein is consistent, blowing a 0.20 BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) level in both June 2002 and 2005. After his second DUI Animal Rights Groups decided to jump on the bandwagon and start complaining since he had his dog in the car.
Rip Torn – In January 2004 Rip Torn crashed into a New York Taxi just before his first DUI arrest but in 2006 he had a chance to try his mugshot again with a second DUI. This time however he did win a blue ribbon prize for best mugshot picture EVER!
Vince Neil – Sex and Rock n Roll can work, but fast cars and alcohol do not. Vince Neil’s’ first DUI in 1984 is one of the saddest stories in celebrity DUI history resulting in the death of one of his best friends. 26 years later he was arrested again for a DUI in June 2010… Wait a minute, who the heck drives in Vegas?
Gary Dourdan – Snoozing and cruising should be the name of Gary Dourdan’s DUI tale. In 2008 police arrested and booked Gary Dourdan for drug possession while sleeping in his car. 3 years later in 2011 he was arrested again on suspicion of DUI and drug possession while walking away from the scene of a car accident… with his car. Wanna bet Grissom could solve this before the first commercial break?
Nicole Richie – 50 miles per hour is not that fast but when you’re a little tipsy it’s easy to miss the speed limit sign of only 15 MPH! That’s what happened to Nicole Riche in 2002 resulting in her first DUI. Four years later in September 2006 Nicole drove the wrong way on a freeway to get a second DUI. At least we know she can’t read after drinking… wait, could she before?
Celebrity gossip may be fun but drinking and driving is a serious matter with serious consequences. The total cost of even the first DUI can be well over $10,000 along with higher auto insurance which can cost up to 200% or more than your current premiums, for the next few years! Then there is the real possibility of injuring or killing someone. Always get a cab or walk – never drink or drive.
